Privacy policy

Last updated

This policy explains what personal information Laughton Scott collects through this website, why we collect it, who we share it with and the rights you have over it. We have written it to describe what this website actually does.

Who we are

This website is run by Laughton Scott Limited, a company registered in England and Wales under company number 08083139. We are the controller of the personal information described in this policy, which means we decide how and why it is used.

Our registered office is 22 Newburgh Road, London W3 6DQ.

What this policy covers

This policy covers this website only. The booking calendar for Communicate for Success is provided by LeadConnector, a separate platform with its own privacy policy. It opens inside this website, but only when you choose to book, and what you enter in it is handled under that platform’s policy. The same applies when you follow a link from this website to LinkedIn, YouTube, Instagram or X.

The information we collect

When you send us an enquiry through the contact form, we collect:

  • your name and email address, which are required so that we can reply;
  • your company and job title, if you choose to give them;
  • your message, and anything you choose to include in it.

When you send the form, your details are emailed to us through SMTP2GO, an email delivery service. The website does not store your enquiry. SMTP2GO keeps a delivery record of each message, including its subject line with your name and company, for up to 35 days and then deletes it.

If you email or phone us directly, we receive your email address or phone number and whatever you tell us.

Like any website, the servers that deliver these pages record basic technical information about each request, such as your IP address, your browser and the page you asked for. This is done by our hosting provider, which keeps those logs only for as long as it needs them to keep the website secure and working.

If something on this website stops working in your browser, for example a script fails or a video does not load, your browser sends a fault report to Sentry, the service we use to find and fix faults. The report describes the fault: the page, what failed, your browser and operating system, and the technical steps on the page just before it. It is sent only when something goes wrong, and it does not include anything you type into the website. Sentry receives your IP address when a report arrives, but we have set it not to store it.

If you agree, we also use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use this website: which pages they visit, how they arrive and which buttons they use. We do not ask you to create an account, we do not take payments on this website, and we do not use advertising tools. See “Cookies and analytics” below.

How we use it, and our lawful basis

  • To reply to your enquiry and, if you ask us to, to discuss or arrange training. Our lawful basis is taking steps at your request before entering into a contract, and our legitimate interest in responding to people who contact us.
  • To keep the website secure and working, using the server logs and fault reports described above. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in running a secure website.
  • To understand how the website is used, with Google Analytics, so that we can improve it. Our lawful basis is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.

We do not add you to a mailing list, we do not use your information for marketing unless you ask us to, and we never sell it.

Who we share it with

We use a small number of service providers who handle your information on our behalf and only on our instructions:

  • SMTP2GO, which delivers what you submit through the contact form to us by email. It keeps a delivery record of each message, and a small random sample of messages for abuse checks, for up to 35 days before deleting them;
  • our email provider, Microsoft 365, where your enquiry and our replies are stored;
  • our hosting provider, which serves this website and keeps the server logs described above;
  • Sentry, which receives the fault reports described above, keeps them for no longer than 90 days and then deletes them;
  • Google, which provides Google Analytics, only if you accept analytics cookies.

We do not share your information with anyone else, unless the law requires us to.

Transfers outside the UK

SMTP2GO, which delivers the contact form to us by email, processes that information in the United States. Our email and hosting providers may also process information outside the UK. Whenever one of our providers transfers personal information outside the UK, we require that transfer to be protected by safeguards that UK data protection law recognises.

Sentry stores fault reports in the European Union, in Frankfurt, Germany. Sentry is a US company and may access them from the United States to support its service. As with our other providers, we require that transfer to be protected by safeguards that UK data protection law recognises.

If you accept analytics cookies, the information Google Analytics collects is processed by Google, which may transfer it to the United States. As with our other providers, we require that transfer to be protected by safeguards that UK data protection law recognises.

How long we keep it

We keep your enquiry for as long as we need it to reply and to follow up on the work you asked about, and for no longer than 12 months. After that we delete it. If you become a client, we keep the records we need for that work and for our legal and accounting obligations.

Cookies and analytics

We use Google Analytics cookies only if you accept them. When you first visit, a banner asks whether you accept or reject them, and nothing from Google is loaded until you choose “Accept”. If you choose “Reject”, or make no choice, no analytics cookies are set and no information is sent to Google.

If you accept, Google Analytics sets two cookies:

  • _ga, which distinguishes one visitor from another, and lasts two years;
  • _ga_ followed by an identifier, which keeps track of your visit, and lasts two years.

We use them to count visits and to see which pages people read, how they arrive and which of our buttons they use, such as booking a consultation or sending an enquiry. We do not send Google your name, your email address or anything you write in the contact form, and we do not use the information for advertising. Google states that Google Analytics does not log or store IP addresses. Google Analytics keeps the information it collects for 14 months.

Your choice is saved in your browser’s local storage for 6 months, so that we do not ask you on every page. It is not a cookie and it is never sent to us. After 6 months we ask again.

You can change your mind at any time with “Cookie settings” at the bottom of every page. If you withdraw your consent, we stop Google Analytics and delete the cookies it set on this website.

When you move between pages using the menu, the website stores one short technical value in your browser’s session storage, so that the page transition starts from the right place. It contains no personal information, it is never sent to us or anyone else, and the next page deletes it as soon as it has read it.

Fault reports do not use cookies or your browser’s storage.

The booking calendar for Communicate for Success loads from LeadConnector only when you open it, and LeadConnector may set its own cookies under its own policy.

When you follow a link to another website, such as our social media profiles, that website may set its own cookies under its own policy.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to:

  • ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you;
  • ask us to correct information that is wrong or incomplete;
  • ask us to delete your information;
  • ask us to restrict how we use it, or object to how we use it;
  • ask us to transfer it to you or to another organisation.

To use any of these rights, email us at [email protected]. There is no charge, and we will reply within one month.

Complaints

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first and we will try to put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office, the UK’s data protection regulator, at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle personal information, we will update this page and the date at the top of it.
